History of Pop Records
Local recording artists Ian Glass and Jazz Forest started Pop Records in 1990. The company was incorporated and their business venture was a partnership. They offered recording services and utilized a studio called Desolation Sound, along with the production services of Craig Arnett. An original local band called "Mother" was one of the bands they worked with. Ian was also one of the members of another original local recording act called "Moonstone."
Linda had originally approached the owners about buying a percentage of shares and coming in as a third partner, offering legal and accounting services, but initially was declined due to the founding members wanted to retain full control of the company. At a later point in time, Ian and Jazz had sold half the company shares to an associate of theirs, named Steve Fuller. By then, it was 1992. Ian had then made a proposition to Linda, offering half the company shares on the basis that she accept a business partner, namely, Steve Fuller. Linda accepted this arrangement, but only on the basis of all 3 parties signing a contract she had drafted, which clearly stated that if any business parties involved were found to be involved with any form of UNETHICAL business dealing, that person would AUTOMATICALLY forfeit their shares as a result. As Linda had a vested interest in the bands and did not intend to manipulate the bands just for the sake of profit, this was an assurance that nothing could jeopardize the future of the label or artists involved. Unfortunately, Steve Fuller was found to be in Breach of Contract, and Ian Glass then signed Steve's shares over to Linda, who became the only remaining owner. The company has since been a sole proprietorship.
Linda's future plans include bringing in shareholders to set up a company trust, then to solicit major investors at a later time, after building a noteworthy roster of bands. She has decided to always retain the controlling percentage of the company shares. Other future plans include international licensing for distribution and marketing to eventually secure a world market and increase future opportunities for all parties involved, concerning marketing, promotion, distribution and publishing.
